3 story books to teach kids about Hajj

Now that it is the month of Al-Hajjah you may be inclined towards teaching or introducing your kid to the concept of Hajj. And why not? Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam and is a must for every person who is an adult, is healthy and is financially capable to do it.
One of the ways of opening the doors to the concept of Hajj for children is through storybooks. Reading to kids has so many other advantages too and how wonderful it is that in addition to those perks, our kids can learn about an important Muslim aspect too. So, here are best storybooks to teach your kids about Hajj. In the list below you will also have information on whats good about it and whats not, which age group it is suitable for, how much it costs and where can you buy it from.
1) 5 pillars of Islam
Whats good about it: Illustrations are clear and big, which makes it engaging for little kids. It offers introductory level concept for all five pillars to Islam. The story book has Shahadat in Arabic too.
Whats not so good about it: It is a very short book, each page of the book is about one pillar of Islam. There is very little text for each page.
Suitable for ages: Up to 4 years.

2) Hamza Learns about Hajj
Whats good about it: The story unfolds with Hamza imagining Hajj and conversing with his grandfather. This storybook has big and vivid illustrations that are enjoyable to look at for the kids and also tell a lot about the story on their own. This helps the kids engaged and participate in the story telling. The story book covers aspects of what Hajj is, where it is performed, the significance of Ka’aba and a little bit about rituals of Hajj.
Whats not so good about it:
Suitable for ages: Up to 8 years.

3) Going to Mecca
Whats good about it: It contains detailed description of Hajj rituals, so it is geared towards older kids who would be better able to understand the concept of Hajj in detail. The story book offers vivid illustrations.
Whats not so good about it: This story book does not offer a “story” per say. It covers different aspects of Hajj and why Mecca is important to Muslims but does not offer it in a story telling way. Some may find that the story book generalizes male aspects of Hajj, such as it talks about shaving of head during Hajj, which males do but not females.
Suitable for ages: 5-11 years.
